Since March, the world has been on a crazy and unusual ride due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The rollercoaster we have been experiencing has impacted all dimensions of our health including emotions, thoughts and social well-being. At times these emotions can feel heavy and hard, which can be draining.
When talking to others about their experiences during COVID, many describe feeling anxious, irritable, sad and worried. I’m sure many of us have felt this range of emotions on a daily basis! The most important thing to do is to recognize that these feelings are valid and to be empathetic to ourselves.
Reflect on the Positive
So much regarding this pandemic has been focused on the negative, but have you taken the time to see the positive? Hear me out...
Instead of thinking about what this pandemic kept you from doing, think about what it has provided you. Perhaps more time with your family, time saved on traffic, picked up a new hobby, learned to be patient, started running or became a technology wizard.
Self-Reflection
Take time to reflect and think about how you grew since March. Consider the obstacles you have successfully accomplished, what you learned about yourself and what made your happy during this time. Find a comfortable space, grab a pen and journal and free write your responses with no judgment.
Establish Goals
Once you complete this self-reflection, write down three goals you have for yourself that you’d like to achieve by the end of the year. These goals can be related to any element of your life that you feel are most important to you at this time. Make them specific and achievable.
What’s the reason for doing this? The purpose is to help you stay motivated and focused as we close out the year. When time gets rough you will be able to switch your energy into something positive that you are working to accomplish!
As we enter November, continue to monitor your feelings and notice how you feel in response to certain events. Keep referring to your goals and remind yourself of the growth you have made so far! These strategies will help keep you resilient during these times!
Yours in health,
JoAnne
