Welcome to Day 2 of the Mental Reset!
Today, your focus is on your self-talk patterns. Whether we’re aware of it or not, we are constantly talking to ourselves and assessing our perceived strengths and weaknesses. In some aspects of your life you might recognize positive self-talk patterns and in other areas, it might be more on the negative side. That is completely normal!!
Our thoughts connect to our emotions. When we’re hearing negative self-talk patterns, the emotions that follow are usually those of feeling down, lacking confidence, feeling anxious, etc. Also, the negative self-talk usually comes in waves. Once it begins, there will usually be additional self-talk following.
So, how do we manage our self-talk? It’s ALL about enhancing our self-awareness. Most of the time when we recognize that we’ve spoken negatively to ourselves, too much time has passed and we’re already on the downward spiral.
The goal is to become in tune to our thoughts non judgmentally, recognize that they are present and move forward.
Your task today is to practice becoming more aware of your thoughts, but not providing the thoughts any value- as they do not define you.
As you pay attention to your thoughts, visualize a STOP 🛑 sign an follow these steps:
1. STOP what you’re doing and recognize that the thought is present
2. Take 3-5 deep, slow breaths
3 Observe how you’re responding to the thoughts (psychologically and physiologically)
4. Proceed forward
This is something that will take time to work on, which is why it is scheduled so early in the Mental Reset! Be patient with the process and open to what you learn about yourself!
