Managing the “What-If”

When training conditions aren’t perfect it is the BEST time to train!

A number of athletes face the “What-If” during training as they prepare for a race….especially related to elements they have no control over such as the environment.

🌧 What if it downpours?

🥵 What if it’s too humid?

🥶 What if it’s too cold?

❄️ What if it starts hailing?

These “What-If” thoughts are valid, but may result in feelings of nervousness, worry or anxiety.

Begin to work on shifting the thought process to “If it….then I will…”. This simple shift in words helps athletes feel prepared and in control of the situation.

“If it downpours during my race, I will…..”

It also doesn’t hurt to get out there and train during the times when the weather isn’t perfect. It will assist in developing strong training strategies 💪
