Set the stage for yourself…envision an aspect of your performance when you usually feel nervous. Think about how your body feels (heart racing, breathing rapid, clammy palms, etc.). Think of the thoughts that usually occur during this time.
Now….think of a time when you’ve been excited!! Reflect on how your body felt…probably pretty similar to how you felt when nervous!
Our bodies respond in the SAME way to excitement, nervousness and anxiety. It’s our mind that is responsible for the interpretation of what our body is saying…and many times we perceive it incorrectly, resulting in feelings of anxiety.
Learn to reframe your thoughts to help shift the feelings of nervousness into excitement. Next time you’re experiencing theses feelings take a moment to STOP 🛑
Next, say…”I’m excited to….”
You can even begin saying “I’m excited” prior to taking part in the event that usually causes you to feel nervous.
Give it a try!
